Total Heartbreak
October 27, 2006 8:26 pmWell, what can I say. I’m not going to go off on a rant like I did last time. I can’t begin to tell you how unhappy I am. Some people just wouldn’t understand. I was 3 yrs old the last time the Tigers won the World Series. Needless to say, I don’t remember it. I doubt I even watched it. This is a team I have loved my entire life. I’ve never been a bandwagon type of guy when it came to the Tigers. That’s why I have them tattoo’d on my arm. And that came during their worst season ever. To see them get this far and then just fall flat on their face, I just can’t explain how I feel. I guess all I can do is be happy with how far they got, as the reigning American League Champions. As they were basically a nearly brand new team this year, I really cant complain a whole lot about that.
As for the loss, I guess if I were to take a look at the situation, I would look at the the players themselves. 1 of their starting pitchers and 2 relief pitchers are rookies. ROOKIES. Sure, they all had a great season, and can all pitch in the upper 90’s, even 100+MPH on occasion, but they’re all younger than I am, and I can tell you, I’d be nervous as hell if I were a 23 year old rookie as a starting pitcher in the World Series.
Several factors led to the Tigers losses. Number one was errors. Lots and lots of needless errors, mainly becouse of misjudgements or in too much of a hurry. Second was the hitting. They just weren’t hitting at all. Whether they just dried up or the Cardinals pitching was too much, they just werent doing the job. Third was just plain pitching. Especially Verlander in game 5. He was all over the place in the first few innings.
All in all, The St Louis Cardinals Won. Congrats to the Cardinals. Now, I’m gonna go drink it off. I think I’ll finish around Monday morning. I think the one thing that irritates me the most about this is Jeff Weaver. He is a good pitcher. I never understood why the Tigers traded him in the first place. At the time, he was the best pitcher they had, and they sent him to the Yankees. And now, he beat the team that didn’t want him.
P.S. I really hope I don’t have to wait another quarter century to see the Tigers back in the WS. I’ve seen the Pistons and Red Wings win their sports in the past few years. Now all I need is the Tigers and Lions, and I’m not counting much on the Lions.

ya congrats to the cards, they were the better team by a long shot through out this series. the tigers could and should have won the last two but gave them away on errors coming from lack of experience. But no one thought that they would even have a chance at getting where they were tonight, so I guess thats something to be happy about. now they can take the next four months off and then start fresh in the spring, get their shit together and do it again.
Is it crazy that the first thing I thought of after the game was “what in the heck is The Chad going to say about THIS??”
I’m with Dave, that’s the first thing I thought of, too!
Sorry your team didn’t win…I mean, not really sorry for them not winning, but sorry you didn’t get to see your team succeed. I think it was all in their bullpen. They need to have more than one “star” in the bullpen to pull them through things like….the World Series.
It was even on the news in Dutchyland… I immediately had to think of you! Poor Chad…
I’m sorry about your loss. Being an Orioles fan I can understand heart break.
Look at the upside. the Tigers have built a team that can contend for a decade. There is a good chance they’ll be back to finish the job next year. If they can get a couple guys with some plate discipline, I can see it happening. As for Jeff Weaver - I know that stings — but the team was too far from contending when they traded him. Rather than lose him as a free agent, they did what they had to to right the ship. They got a couple good years out of Carlos Pena and a little use out of Franklyn German. But don’t forget, they also landed Jeremy Bonderman in the deal (it was a three-way trade with NYY, DET, and OAK).
As a long suffering Cubs fan, I was 6 when the Tigers last won it all. That was the same year the Padres broke my heart much the same way the Marlins did in 2003. If 2007 starts out and someone told me the Cubs would make it to the WS, but not win - I’d still consider it a successful season. Tigers fans should do the same with this season. It was a success nonetheless.
Good luck in ‘07.
“and I’m not counting much on the Lions”
Ain’t that the truth. LOL! But it won’t stop me from someday attending a game. Someday.
I went to the parade in STL on Sunday…fucking crazy…my roommate is a die-hard Cards fan and my girl lives in STL, so I was a fan of them by default (lifelong Cubs fan, so at least your depression will never exceed mine at the moment). But yeah, they just wanted it more I reckon. That break hurt them…they should have thrown a game to keep sharp while the weather raped the other series. Oh well, you still have the Wings and Pistons to help get your hopes back up, but the Ford Motor Company to let you down. I think that’s good, right>?
